HydrateOrElse Privacy Policy

Effective 5 October 2026

HydrateOrElse is a browser extension that reminds you to drink water. This page explains what it does with your data. The short version: it works fully on your own computer, and the only data that leaves it is what is needed for the optional friends and league features, if you choose to sign in.

What stays on your computer

Your settings and progress: active hours, reminder interval, level, daily goal, glasses today, streaks and points are saved in your browser's local extension storage.
Camera (Hard mode): if you use Hard mode, the camera check runs entirely on your device. Video frames are analysed in memory to see whether you are sipping from a cup or bottle. They are never recorded, saved, uploaded or shared, and the camera turns off as soon as the check ends.
Web pages: the extension injects its reminder overlay into the pages you visit. It does not read, collect, store or transmit page content, your browsing history or what you type. It only checks, on the page itself, whether a live video or audio call or a fullscreen page is active, so that it does not interrupt you.

What is sent to our server (only if you sign in with Google)

Signing in is optional and only needed for the Friends tab. If you sign in, the following is stored with our database provider, Supabase:

your Google account email address (used only to identify your account),
the username you choose,
your daily goal and level, glasses today, streak, best streak, and points,
a log of drinks you confirmed (time, level and points),
your friend connections and duels.

Your approved friends can see your username, streak, glasses today and points. Nobody else can. Camera data is never part of this.

What we do not do

We do not sell or rent your data.
We do not use it for advertising, and we use no analytics or tracking tools.
We do not use or transfer your data for creditworthiness or lending purposes.
